It's a rare occasion when we get a Sunday night show at the BLCC, but this last Sunday was a good one. We had Avi Vinocur from The Stone Foxes breeze through town with his awesome brand of butcher shop rock, known 'round these parts as The Meat Packers. They are a low-fi, high energy, real raw rock and roll bunch of bastards that live up to the name.

If you missed the show...well, we are sorry about that...but you can bet your sweet bippy that we'll get them back next time they roll through town. Until then, please enjoy the pretty pictures taken by our resident beard, Michael.

So last night, we hosted one of many after parties that we plan to do for the shows at Reno's newest venue: The Knitting Factory. The sold out venue hosted French rock group "Phoenix" last night, and the BLCC had DJ's Bamboo and Seven come down and spin for the party goers after the show.

Those party goers included the band. Phoenix showed up at about 1:30 in the morning, having fun, and complimenting the club. We were honored to host t

hem.

We have quite a few more after parties lined up this year already, and plan on having many more special occasions like this down the road.

As for this weekend, we have two awesome FREE shows lined up.

Tomorrow night, the Unkle Funkle Trio is going to lay down the sauce.

Saturday night, two bands: Pinky Polanski and Aversion Therapy are going to touch on Zappa, Spinal Tap and some originality as they do their best to melt our patron's faces off.

After the show...

Last night, the BLCC had what we hope will be the first of MANY after parties for the shows that are taking place at the new Knitting Factory here in downtown Reno. The show at The Knit was The Roots, and it was insane.

After the concert, party people made their way up to California Avenue and stepped into the BLCC to listen and dance to the talents of DJ 7, and even special guest, local legend EJ the DJ!

The house was packed until the wee hours, and we had a helluva time.

Stay tuned for more of the same for the next few months.

Stone Foxy

So it's been a while since the last post, but one of the New Year's resolutions that I intend to keep is getting more information up on this blog in 2010.

I'll get warmed up by talking about one of the Absolute BEST shows we have had taking place a couple of weeks ago. The Stone Foxes from San Francisco came and melted faces off when they took the BLCC stage. This up and coming young foursome of raw talent resembles something between the Black Keys and the Raconteurs. No joke, they are pure rock from the bluesy roots place where real rock comes from. All four of them sing, too. I wish I had some video to post, but maybe I will work on that for 2010, too. Regardless, I plan on getting them back into the BLCC ASAP.

There are already some great shows planned for 2010, including:

DJ 7 playing The Roots after party on January 1st at 11pm
"Looner" coming into town on January 9th
DJ Jon Potter and his House Party on January 10th
Local Jazz talents "Polyphony" on January 15th
Roots Country "Clydesdale" on January 23rd
"Cheetah's on the Moon" coming to town on February 19th
"Nevada Backwards coming up on February 26th

Also working on "The Pimps of Joytime" in February, and "Otis Heat" in March. Stay tuned for those great acts!!!

As always, we will have Duo Nouveau in at least once a month, Comedy Night Open Mic every Sunday Night at 9pm, Movie and Trivia Night every Monday Night, and "Black and Blue" ski and snowboard night every Thursday this Winter featuring movies on the big screen from Teton Gravity Research and Level One Productions and giving away brand new Moment Ski's and Sentury Snowboards!!!

In case you couldn't tell, we are keeping busy at the BLCC. Maybe that's why there's no time for blogging!

It's so good when it touches your lips.

In this case, the plan is actually to fill up the BLCC like we did recenty...full of screaming, sweaty, Prince fanatics...eager to rock their rasperry berets off to the next best thing Reno has to offer: "Formerly Known As". These guys know Prince front to back, and they are back in the bar this Friday night to do their thing. If you are in the area, you should take advntage and check them out. $5 at the door is a helluva deal. When they go big it will be more...and worth it. For now, get your sexy asses shaking to some of the most fun music ever composed, and played in loving tribute to the sexy freak that was once only known as a symbol!!

So last Friday night we had a Prince cover band called "Formerly Known As" rock the BLCC. It was so packed and people were having so much fun that we couldn't even keep the beer cold! It was nuts, and it didn't really slow down that much on Saturday. We hosted an art opening called "Art Exposed" along with Reno Passport, and we had 4 DJ's play on the patio. It was supposed to go from 4pm to 9pm, but the dance party was so bumpin' that they kept playing until close to midnight! It was a lot of fun, and I want to do it all again.

We are going to try something new this week; en experiment for our 915 or so Facebook fans. We're hosting a Facebook "Fan Appreciation Party" and having a new awesome band called "Jelly Bread" come play a free show! Everyone who RSVP's through our Facebook fan page will get on the list, and get a FREE COCKTAIL!!! That's right...we're going to give it away. Not only that, but there's a contest to pick the next wall mural for behind the stage, and the winner gets a $100 bar tab!!!

So if you're a fan, RSVP, if you're not, get a clue! (Just kidding, but you should hook up with the BLCC, because that's how we roll). Check it out:

Since I have slacked on updating this blog, my new approach is going to be mobile blogging. So here I sit on the BLCC patio, ladies night winding down (free champagne and specials on all flavored vodka drinks, btw) saying nothing special. But the patio looks great, if I do say so myself. The lights are awesome. The umbrellas are comfy. The weather is perfect. The bar is good.

Cinco, Drinko, Fun Fun Fun

I just thought I would shoot a little update out about "The Bar". Business has been good, and we came off of a great week last week that involved DJ Coop on his 2nd week of a regular Wednesday night happy hour gig, and Unkle Funkle playing Saturday night for drummer Justin Kruger's birthday party...aka: Kentucky Funk Down in honor of the Kentucky Derby, and the Funky Fresh Grooves that U.F. likes to lay down. Seriously. Talented. Cover Band. They played everything from James Brown to Elvis, and even tapped a little Sly out in the mix. We had a long and productive evening, and now it is coming all around again.

Tonight we are going to get in the AY AY AY AY AY spirit with some food and Mexican drink specials for Cinco de Mayo. I might even suggest throwing Nacho Libre up on the big screen to flirt with the concept a little harder. And we have our good friend Dawn bringing in a Fiesta Platter of delicious goodies for all of our patrons to enjoy...gratis, of course.

DJ Coop gets it going again tomorrow at 5:30 and we like him...hopefully a long term deal at the BLCC.

As for this weekend, I will be opening up Thursday and Friday to cover for our regular slanger...and then closing both those nights, as well as Saturday. Should be long, but it's good to get in there and see the faces, and if you are reading this blog, AND you have a face...bring it in to say hi.

Jazz it up

I'm down @ the bar working and enjoying this beautiful Saturday on the patio when I can. It's not too busy, but the people that come around are loving what we got, and it's not that hard to do when I serve them up one of Ligon's super-top-secret BLCC Bloody Mary's. He still hasn't shared the recipe with me, so I hope I don't run out of the mix! ;)

It's been hard to post, but I figured I have a few minutes right now, and I would talk about the happenings this evening. It's going to be a great season for downtown Reno with the new Aces baseball team bringing thousands of bodies into the area to enjoy some good old Americana. We are going to follow up tonight's game by hosting some amazing jazz musicians: The Pere Soto trio (with Hot Club Du Reneaux artists Matt Luchessi and Dapper Dan) will be playing a Django inspired version of Gypsy Jazz at 9pm.

Following up on the theme, we will be hosting Duo Nouveau for TWO nights next week: Thursday at 6pm (the happy hour version) and Friday at 9pm (the progressive, facemelter version). JK and Jay are two of the most talented cats in the BLC, and we're stoked to get involved with them on a regular basis. It's a great opportunity to come down and see what the Reno-Inspired bar is all about.

I know I haven't done any updates, but we are working on a new website, and a new blog address, so I almost hate to waste the energy that could be spent...well, in the bar. To be honest, that doesn't sound very good now that it's written on the screen. Nevertheless, where would YOU be when there's a party going down like THIS ONE? So this blog is dedicated to Reno's newest hot spot: the Biggest Little City Club. Originally, my intent was to toss up some posts about the takedown, remodel, and opening of the BLCC, but it's been hard enough getting all that done, much less blogging about it. Instead, this post will let the real writers do the talking about what my partner, Brian Ligon, and I (Brian Egan) have done.
